Return to: Linda Gass Biography (2005)
Linda Gass made the switch from software development to textile artist 11 years ago. She graduated from Stanford University with a BS in Mathematics and an MS in Computer Science and worked in the software industry for 10 years. She then began painting silk and making art quilts and now exhibits her work nationally in juried shows and galleries. Her work is published in several books and magazines including Fiberarts Design Book 7, Surface Design, Batik for Artists and Quilters, The Big Book of Quilting. Her quilt "After the Gold Rush" won the Quilt National Rookie Award in 1999. She recently appeared in two episodes of "Simply Quilts" on Home & Garden Television. Her art expresses environmental concerns and her current work brings focus and awareness to creating sustainable water resource management in the American West. She travels extensively in the wilderness areas of the western United States where she finds much of the inspiration for her work. She was a founding member of The Main Gallery in Redwood City from 2000 - 2003 and is an active community volunteer, serving on the boards of the Textile Arts Council of the DeYoung Museum and the National Foundation for Teaching Entrepreneurship. She is also a member of the wilderness search and rescue team, the Bay Area Mountain Rescue Unit.
