Artist Statement

Born and raised in the warm southern latitude of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil and now compressed into the Greater Los Angeles area as an associate professor of Art and Environmental Studies at Pitzer College of the Claremont Colleges.

I am interested in:
1) Combining art (aesthetics, sculpture, innovation, and design) with environmental restoration projects.
2) Preserving open space habitats.
3) Being an advocate for more sustainable practices regarding what we do with our public and private lands.
4) Finding methods to intervene with degraded and compromised areas of the landscape in order to restore local wildlife and more sustainable plant systems appropriate to the local ecology.
5) Improving the nature/culture link by including community members in my projects.

I try to have my projects reflect all of the above whenever possible.
