After planting white Rice/Tree/Burial, a second version of her 1968 ritualistic performance, in Artpark, Denes was surprised to discover red rice growing, which led her to detect the high level of toxicity in Artpark’s soil. Knowing now what we do about phytoremediation, planting Rice/Tree/Burial may have revitalized the spoiled soil, though it was obviously never tested.
