Art & Ecology:

Perspectives and Issues

Ecological Design

by Don Krug

"Movement, change, light, growth and decay are the lifeblood of nature, the energies that I try to tap through my work. I need the shock of touch, the resistance of place, materials, weather, the earth as my source."
- Andy Goldsworthy

Artists who work in the area of ecological design are concerned withhow the art they create is contingent on direct experiences and interactions with a particular place where the art is created. An ecological view of design considers the artwork within larger contexts of how people, plants, and animals are interconnected with each other, the site, and/or the earth.
