Photoessays: Art and the Earth



Jim Herold holds B. S. Degrees in Life Sciences and Art from St. Cloud State University, St. Cloud, Minnesota. He has an M. E. in Art Environmental Education from the University of Wisconsin - Riverfalls. He taught earth science for fourteen years, art in grades 6th through 12th, American Sign Language and biology in Minnesota and Spring Valley, Wisconsin.

Jim has delivered over twenty presentations about art and science at local, state, national, and international conferences. He presented at the 1992 United Nations Summit, the 1992 International Society of Education through the Arts Conference in Montreal and at many National Art Education Association Conventions. He regularly receives letters of support for his environmental art education approaches from people in different regions of the world.

Jim gained glossary definition research experience working with the Army Corps of Engineers Waterways research lab in Spring Valley, Wisconsin. He lived in Denmark for two years, where he conducted art research throughout Europe and Egypt. Jim enjoys traveling and returns to Europe ever two or three years with students.

Jim's father was a commercial artist and the family spent as much time as possible living by lakes and streams. Pastries are his passion, and he enjoys the good life in Wisconsin -- especially the winters.
